Captain America Civil War

We've been so excited for this movie for so long and then we kind of just forgot about it but now, it's finally a  few months away and we're all hyped back up again! Marvel has finally started test screening the film and the early reviews are in and it seems like we can put a lot of our fears to rest and ease our little heads over this movie being just a mini Avengers flick rather than a full fledged Captain America movie. 

So far what we've got is confirmation that the movie is going to focus on Cap and the things that have transpired to cause the rift between him and everyone's favorite billionaire. The focus this time around though is going to be on the emotional and mental toll the previous movies have taken on the characters.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron Review

   

  

   When Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) jumpstarts a dormant peacekeeping program, things go terribly awry, forcing him, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and the rest of the Avengers to reassemble. As the fate of Earth hangs in the balance, the team is put to the ultimate test as they battle Ultron (James Spader), a technological terror hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they encounter two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff.

SPOILER ALERT!

   This installation of the Avengers is jam packed with action, right from the opening sequence you're thrown right into the thick of it and I do admit, at times it does get a little over the top and hard to bare. The CGI through out the movie is actually really good, as we've come to expect from this day and age. It has its fair share of emotional moments, especially when they introduce Hawkeye's family in an attempt to get us to like him more but we all know where we stand on that particular front. 

   The plot does have certain similarities to the original in my opinion, sometime during the middle of the movie the Avengers get to squabbling among themselves as they did in the first one, followed by a giant action sequence towards the end where they face an army with one dude leading them and Iron Man as usual saving the day. It all just feels like its been done before, oh that's right, it has!

   The introduction of not one, not two, but three new characters doesn't really deliver as much as you think it would but that's just because people these days are mostly pseudo-fans and wannabe-hipster nerds trying to jump on the superhero bandwagon but for actual comic book geeks such as myself, the introduction of Scarlet Witch and especially The Vision made me absolutely lose my shit! 

   All in all, it doesn't live up to the hype in my honest opinion but it is for the most part what you would expect from this franchise and as a Marvel fan, you should go watch and see for yourself. Its fairly well done, certain aspects could be handled better all in all, you should watch it at least once.

   

Jurassic World

Now I don't know about the rest of you, but this movie is getting me really excited. Jurassic World is set for release on June 12th 2015 and I just hope the movie is as good as the trailer. 

This movie is set 22 years after the events of the previous Jurassic Park movies, Isla Nublar, the island where the original movie takes place is now home to Jurassic World, a theme park the way the man behind Jurassic Park, John Hammond originally envisioned it.

Star Wars Episode 7 - Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie added to the cast

Episode 7 is shaping up to have one hell of a star studded crew, in addition to Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher to name just a few, J.J Abrams has added 12 Years A Slave's Lupita Nyong'o and Game Of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie who plays Brienne Of Tarth. No word yet on what role the actors will play though.

X-Men Days Of Future Past after credits scene explained

Spolier Alert!

   I you haven't seen the movie yet and don't want to have it spoiled, stop reading.

   At the end of what seemed like an endless scrolling of credits true to tradition there was an after credits scene which was worth the wait.

   We are taken to the Sahara desert and we see a robed, hooded figure on top of a hill with his arms raised up in the air almost as if he were praying, as the camera moves forward we see that he is in fact manipulating huge blocks of stone and creating the Pyramids all the while being worshipped by a huge crowed who constantly chant "En Sabah Nur." (I was geeking out at this point) The camera then pans over the hooded figure's shoulder to reveal a pale white man who is non other than Apocalypse! The very first mutant.

   We also see four figures on horse back, these are none other than the four horsemen, Apocalypse's most trusted minions, War, Famine, Pestilence and Death. Its a pretty short scene but filled with little details as to what's to come. After all the next movie in the franchise is literally called X-Men: Apocalypse.

   So why is this such a big deal? Well, he is one of the big baddies, incredibly powerful and routinely brainwashes other mutants into carrying out his will, even done to Wolverine! He rarely keeps the X-Men brainwashed though and his goal was to rule the world. 

  

  

Godzilla

No spoilers. Rest easy.

   I know I'm a little late on this one but damn. Gareth Edwards, you done good!

   Gareth Edwards' take on everybody's favourite monster in my opinion was refreshing, to a certain extent was true to the lore and kept the iconic monster in his original form, the form that we've all grown to love.

  The visual effects were amazing, best cinematography we've seen in a long time, this film far out did the American version that any Godzilla fan would despise and for good reason.

  This film is actually action packed but, can, at times feel a little slow and drawn out but nonetheless I highly enjoyed it. Bryan Cranston as usual delivers a stellar performance and don't be surprised if you actually find yourself moved by his character. That man sure knows how to act. Ken Watanabe delivers extremely well with his limited facial expressions throughout the movie, seriously though, he looks mindf**ked the entire time. Aaron Taylor - Johnson does pretty well too, contrary to popular belief I thought his acting for the film was pretty damn good. He gave us that human aspect, something the audience would be able to connect and relate to.

   Another thing I liked about this film was the fact that they didn't portray Godzilla or the MUTO (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism) as evil monsters bent on killing each other and stamping out humanity in the process, they instead portrayed them as animals. Really, really big animals who were just trying to survive, who weren't intentionally destroying everything in their path.

  Throughout the course of the movie, the one problem I did have was when they kept cutting away from Godzilla and showing the human scenes which, happen pretty damn often and I found it a little irritating that Godzilla, the main attraction did get as much screen time as I would have liked but that's just my opinion. All in all though this was a pretty kick ass film and if you haven't already, dude what are you waiting for? Go watch it ASAP!
